Rian, you may know Old Country Buffet from the South Park episode when all the elderly people kill people while driving and eventually take over the town. They lock up the Old Country Buffet, and the elderly have nowhere to eat.
ReplyDeleteJesse, I am jealous. I am also a web designer, but I work in a cubicle for 8 hours a day, and have my designs limited by clients all the time. I try to put hot chicks in my work as much as possible. My company is owned by Sylvan Learning, but I don't get any free tutoring!
That's probably where I know Old Country Buffet from, because as familiar as the name sounds, I can't recall ever eating in, or even seeing one.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the new colors on Invincible, not that I disliked the old ones but if you had to change colorist 51 is the most logical and best way for them to do it. I was buying the book in the nice hardcover editions, then when it took to long for them to come out I switched to trades, when I released that I bought the newest invincible trade at Chicago con last year and that the monthly was only three issues a head of that I figured it was time to start buying the regular issues.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest problem with invincible is that I hate the rest of the image universe, so I hate having to see savage dragon and shadow hawk, even if its only in one panel of one issue every six months. Glad they are doing a Rex Splode mini he is my favorite supporting character.
Maybe I’ll check out Black summer in trade, I make no promises.
I’ve liked some of the secret invasion tie in issues but over all find them and the series disappointing. Did anyone really think that cap on the ship was going to be the real cap and undo everything that brubaker has been doing for 30 something issues of cap? Look on the bright side theres still four issues for something to happen? I really hope that I don’t find another comic taking place in the savage land for the next decade, between this and the horrible ultimates 3 I’m savage land out.
Greg land sucks
The latest issues of ultimate xmen had some decent art work, the story is still terrible
Out here we call the old country buffet…OCB that’s how we roll, they are also in the most rundown and horrible shopping malls…including Brockton’s (where I live) legendary West gate mall. The south park episode featured kitchen country buffet which is most likely owned by the same people but that aint gangta like the OCtodaB
Completely agree with rians review of the New York four, loved local, love Ryan Kelly’s artwork but just couldn’t get into it, which makes sense I’m not a thirteen year old girl.
Sean Murphy is easily one of my favorite artists working today, the guy is crazy. His inking and how he just goes crazy with it are amazing, getting in there with finger prints for shadows and how everything just works, although it shouldn’t, His ink wash stuff he uses from time to time is also amazingly simple but effective. I wish he wasn’t dc exclusive so He could get out Punk Rock Jesus out sooner, the sample pages he was showing off were sick. I agree that the colors were terrible on his hellblazer stuff, but really would it have killed DC to put them out in black and white? The people who are buying superman aren’t buying hellblazer in most cases, Do a two issue black and white arch if its going to look that much better. He’s doing some more hellblazer stuff, possibly a mini series, maybe if it’s a mini they’ll do B&W. I own pages 57, 58, 59 of off road and he sells his stuff super cheap.
Not to start a dangerous trend of agreeing with rian but that image book isn’t ever coming out. It took Todd how long to do the 10 one panel pages for that image anniversary book? Years! Good luck with that image founders.
Rian did you read that top gun two would have maverick dealing with a young hot shot female pilot? Can you see the poster…tom cruise and Katie Holmes in….jeez, just do another mission impossible tom it’s for the best.
They’ll already kind of gone back on the Robocop sequel saying that it wont have anything to do with anything from the previous movies and its more of a reimaging…which is what they say when they don’t want to say remake. Robocop and Robocop 2 are some fine pieces of my childhood I can’t say I’m not interested at all to see what they come up with.
Live action bebop, was the best bad news I’ve ever read. Love the series, my favorite anime by far, it’s so far a head, other anime can’t even see it from where it is. Rian was shocked that you actually prefer samurai champloo (not a bad series, felt the good episodes were good, ending was great, felt the bad episodes, about half, where incredible bad.) chalk it up to me and you not being able to agree on to much. My biggest problem is Hollywood cant out bebop…bebop. For me the characters are perfect, the future setting the ships, the voice acting, the music its all there and nothing they can do can top it….sorry yoko Kanno and the seatbelts music is as big a part of the series as anything else…I shutter to think of the first time the bebop rockets onto mars and a nickel back song begins to play, or Faye played by Jessica Simpson stumbles through her lines to ed, played by Dakota fanning. It cannot be done….
Dear high powered movie peeps, Please take what ever money your going to throw at this thing and give it to shinichiro wantanabe, let him get the band together and make another animated movie.
The packers should just release favre, the Jets need a quarterback.
That’s about all I’ve got, the a-team remix made my day. nice to see rian make it through an entire episode with out talking about the thing.
See you space cowboy…
I think Joelar has officially picked up my torch of ridiculously long posts.
ReplyDeleteAnd on that note, I think I'm done, guys. Your shows are too long and I'm tired of hearing what both of you think about things. I've unsubscribed. It's not personal. i'd just rather not know.
I'm always up for being a guest and whatnot, if you feel like having me on. This is not intended to be a big "fuck you" or anything.
I think I'm just Sidetracked out.
i will say this to be somewhat topical: I'm super-excited for Watchmen, but I'm completely on the fence about whether or not I will ever see it.
BYE!
@ Joel:
ReplyDelete"Maybe I’ll check out Black summer in trade, I make no promises."
Trust me, it's well worth it for the art alone.
"Did anyone really think that cap on the ship was going to be the real cap and undo everything that brubaker has been doing for 30 something issues of cap?"
Not for a moment. But then, I wasn't thinking about it all that much.
"Greg land sucks"
Speak the gospel, brother! I am still amazed that he's the artist who they chose to draw X-Men #500. It seems like too big a milestone to waste on a guy like that.
"The latest issues of ultimate xmen had some decent art work, the story is still terrible"
I agree completely. I like Brandon Peterson for the most part, and I enjoyed the guy who drew most of #96. There was nothing flashy about his work, but there was something about it that I liked.
"Sean Murphy is easily one of my favorite artists working today"
Ditto.
"I own pages 57, 58, 59 of off road and he sells his stuff super cheap."
Does he sell his stuff online, or did you run into him at a con somewhere?
"Rian did you read that top gun two would have maverick dealing with a young hot shot female pilot?"
I did read that. I honestly had no interest in another Top Gun movie to begin with as I'm not really a fan of the original, but this story idea is rather disappointing. The only way I'd really want to see Top Gun 2 is if they got Tony Scott to direct it and both Cruise and Kilmer came back. I think it'd be great to see Scott's modern take on the subject matter in comparison to how he handled the first film, but I seriously doubt he'd have any interest in doing it. As for Kilmer, according to IMDb, he didn't want to be in the first one, but was contractually obligated to make an appearance somehow. I'm betting he couldn't be bothered with a sequel.
"Robocop and Robocop 2 are some fine pieces of my childhood I can’t say I’m not interested at all to see what they come up with."
Did you read the 9 issue Robocop comic that Avatar put out a few years ago? It's drawn by the same amazing Geoff Darrow-style artist from Black Summer who I raved about on the show (Juan Jose Ryp), and I'd highly recommend it. The trade is $30, which is a bit pricey, but you can probably snag it for around $10 on eBay like I did.
"Rian was shocked that you actually prefer samurai champloo"
You know, I was too when I originally watched both series, because I figured the sci-fi epic would suit my tastes more. I like both, but I guess what I liked most about Champloo was the "wandering warriors" aspect of the story. It was always fun seeing where the characters would end up from episode to episode.
"Dear high powered movie peeps, Please take what ever money your going to throw at this thing and give it to shinichiro wantanabe, let him get the band together and make another animated movie."
I agree with that statement 100%. The Cowboy Bebop movie was probably my favorite "episode", though there are many good ones in the actual series. If they do make a live-action movie though, I think they should try some sort of adaptation of the "red eye" episode.
havent gotten to meet him at a show but i've bought his stuff online @
ReplyDeletehttp://sequentialart.pulpculture.com/
As far as I know no hellblazer stuff on there as of yet.
when was brandon peterson drawing ultimate xmen? wasnt it salvador, some horrible fill in artist and then mark brooks?
after writing that I checked out issue 96 the art I liked was Clay mann on pages 4-8,13-18 and 20-22. not to say that brandon petersons work is bad. also according to the credits no one drew pages one two and three. pretty sure its peterson.
shame about that book no one ever seemed to get it like millar or Brain K. Vaughen. kickman's cable arc was good but everything else was kind of bland and boring.
any hope I had of the bebop live action movie being good went out the window with the rumor that spike will be played by Keanu reeves.
kirkman...oops
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is going on, Lolar? We're seeing eye to eye on everything all of a sudden! I completely agree with your statement about Ultimate X-Men. Millar and Vaughn ruled the school and Kirkman's Cable was okay, but the rest has been crap.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for the link. I'm headed over there now to see what's available.
