  1. I haven't listened to this episode yet, but is it Rian by himself!? Looking through the liner notes, every single segment is about Rian. And dude, you bought your sister lingerie!? WEIRD--and oddly erotic, I'm definitely tuning in this week.

  2. Rian... I believe you said previously you were a fan of the Lethal Weapon movies. I only ever saw part 4 in the theater but I was at Target last week with Cristina and we saw a display of DVD box sets for super cheap... they had Lethal Weapon 1-4 on two double-sided DVDs for $9 so I picked it up (as well as a box set of Alien 1-3 for $14; Cristina bought a box set of Superman 1-4 for $9 as well. They also had Die Hard 1-3 for $9 and Back to the Future 1-3 for $13 but I could only justify buying a couple to myself).

Anyway, over the past few days I've been watching a Lethal Weapon movie every night. I watched part 3 tonight and I think I remember you mentioning that you like the movies, but I didn't wanna go back through all the episodes of Sidetracked trying to find when you said it. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the movies? I was surprised how dark Lethal Weapon 1 is... I always thought the movies were sorta half-comedy half-action, but that first one doesn't have that much comedy in it at all.

So far I think all of them are pretty good, none of them stand out as being better than the others. I'm going to watch part 4 tomorrow and then try to get Cristina to watch Alien with me but she's been resisting.

  3. First of all, why is Cristina resisting watching Alien? I thought she liked sci-fi. More importantly though, why has she never seen it before?!

On the subject of the Alien collection you bought, I'm a completist, so I needed to own Resurrection, but in a way I envy the fact that you've got the three good films from the franchise in one collection without the steaming turd of a fourth film. Bravo.

As per your question about the Lethal Weapon franchise, I like all of the movies, including the much-reviled Lethal Weapon 4. I believe I said something similar to your statement about none of them being much better or worse than any of the others. The first one is pretty dark, but I also think that there's some comedy to be found in Riggs' dangerously neurotic behavior. Mayhaps we can cover this topic in an upcoming episode. You game?

  4. Cristina's not a huge sci-fi fan, but she likes some stuff like X-Men. I dunno why she's never seen any of the Alien movies, but I'm determined to get her to watch them. Unfortunately, we were over at her dad's house for Christmas Eve with her three brothers, and they got their dad the same Alien box set for Christmas, so they decided to pop it in and watch it while eating. Nothing ruins a movie better than trying to watch it while everyone else is talking loudly (see: my experience with The Mist), and I think that kind of ruined any chance I had of getting her to actually sit down and watch the movie for real. Maybe, though.

Anyway, what'd you get for Christmas? My list is as follows.

    From Cristina:
    - Watchmen graphic novel
    - The Dark Knight on DVD
    - Superman I-IV on DVD
    - Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark squares
    - Some French Vanilla Dunkin Donuts ground coffee

    From Cristina's parents:
    - Kung Fu Panda on DVD
    - A new wool hat
    - New tennis shoes

    From my mom:
    - Cookies
    - Comics
    - Chocolate
    - More Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla ground coffee

    And from my sister:
    - A Christmas ornament in the shape of a pair of ice skates for me and Cristina

  5. I'm not as bad as Haase when it comes to watching movies with people, but I do get peeved pretty easily if someone/something interrupts the viewing experience. If Cristina's already partially seen the movie it may be hard to convince her to watch it again, but just make sure to remind her that Alien is one of the few movies out there that is essentially unanimously loved by everyone. I've personally never heard anyone say that they don't like Alien. It's a true classic.

Essentially I got movies and comics for Christmas. Some of the highlights are as follows:

    Movies:
    - Iron Man
    - The Dark Knight (Blu-Ray)
    - The Incredible Hulk
    - Wall-E
    - Brazil (3 disc Criterion version)

    Comics:
    - Creepy Archives Vol. 1 HC
    - the two newest Brubaker/Lark Daredevil trades
    - Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and a Hard Place

    Not Comics:
    - Studio Space (book)
    - MGS4
    - a Dexter shirt
    - some scratch-off lotto tickets in my stocking (from which I won $74)
