Just wanted to point out that the "Expelled" movie Jesse talked about is a worthless piece of shit. Most of the arguments made in the movie were either flawed or flat-out lies. Read expelledexposed.com for more info.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I just wanted to expand upon what I said a bit because I think it could be seen as dismissive, but here's the deal.
ReplyDelete"Intelligent design" is simply creationism with a fancy new name. There's nothing scientific about it, it is merely creationists trying to force their myths into science classrooms. The blacklisting, or censorship, or whatever you want to call it, of scientists discussing creationism simply doesn't exist. There is no council of scientists looking to silence dissent, and in fact dissent is what science is based upon. Scientists WANT people to challenge notions and discover new things because that's what science is. If creationism were true or had a single shred of evidence it would be accepted by the scientific community.
Also, just a heads up, using the word Darwinism makes you sound like a creationist. Scientists use the word "evolution," and the word Darwinism is a tactic by the creationists to make it sound like an ideology, such as Marxism.
Bottom line, intelligent design or creationism or religion of any kind does not belong in science classes. Ben Stein can whine about freedom of speech all he wants, but it has nothing to do with the facts. You can't teach that the world is flat in a science classroom because it isn't true. Nor can you teach that two and two equal five in a math class or that Germany's in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in Geography. It's not a matter of freedom of speech, it's a matter of reality.
Oh, Rian, I saw Slumdog Millionaire last night and LOVED it. I also saw Benjamin Button a couple weeks ago and thought it was good, but not great. It WAS a bit too "Forrest Gump" for me, but I did enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteBut fuck, Slumdog Millionaire? Amazingly good.
Scott, I respond to your comments on the next episode. I'm just too laz to type what I think out. New episode may be up on Friday.
ReplyDeleteCool. Looking forward to hearing it.
ReplyDeletedamn, I cant believe my eyes. A borderline intellegent discussion in the comments section of the sidetracked podcast ?!?!?!? Creationism vs evolution on sidetracked didnt see that one coming.
ReplyDeleteis this the start of the sidetracked civil war? if so I'm with scott , sorry Jesse your still my favorite podcast host...in your face rian.
I figure over the course of history science is responsible for less Indian deaths, so I'll go with that. Although my theory that Indians were sent to the moon to test the rockets for the monkeys that followed is still unacceptable.
since when do two and two not equal five I ask you!?
I'm glad rian is enjoying spiderman, that makes an even dozen, good for you marvel. I guess resetting twenty years of comics wasnt a bad idea afterall. Look I'm all for a lighter happy go lucky spiderman, but did marvel really need to do what they did to get there, deals with the devil and what not. No offense rian but you really need to do all that so you can tell the story of spiderman losing his webshooter again? Or that norman disapproves of Harry's stature in life? or that peter might be falling for his best friends girl? or that Aunt May doesnt have enough flour to make wheat cakes?
I read the Bachelo arc for the art and then the first time Romita Jr. came back, Just cause he draws the best spidey ever. Reading it just makes my brain hurt. How is Harry alive again? why doesnt anyone remember him being dead? If Norman knew peter was spiderman before civil war how come he dont remember now? or venom? Why is Jackpot who looks, talks and acts and even has a name relating to MJ not MJ? who cares about Hammer Head? to many questions for me to enjoy the book.
I don't think I will ever see Benjamin Button, as the premise is to retarded for me.
in closing
"let the red man, Get a head....man"

Although my theory that Indians were sent to the moon to test the rockets for the monkeys that followed is still unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteI can't stop laugh from that line. Lolar you crack me up!
I know I'm going to be alone in my thoughts and beliefs and I am ok with that. Sidetracked isn't a political/science/religion debate podcast. I'm not going to judge anyone on what they believe unless it is that they think rob liefeld is a great artist. listen to the next episode and i'll clear up my thoughts.
joel i'm still laughing!
its no Laughing Matter, the blood on dozens of Indians is on the hands of Nasa.
ReplyDelete@ Scott:
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked Slumdog and that you got to see it before it left theaters (at least I'm assuming you saw it in the theater...)
@ Joel:
As I said, I don't like how Spiderman got to where it it, I just like the stories being told now. I don't have the answers to all of your questions, but I'm also not completely caught up with the book yet. I've only read about half of the Brand New Day issues thus far. Though since you ask who cares about Hammerhead, I can say that I do now that they've told a good story with him and made him a bit more interesting than he used to be.
As for your comment about Benjamin Button, that makes me want to cry.
