  1. I watched X-Men 3 the other night. As you know, Rian, I've been avoiding it since it came out because I didn't want it to tarnish my love of the first two X-Men movies. I knew that many fans considered it to be terrible, on the level of the Fantastic Four movies and Catwoman, but while watching it I was surprised how much I liked it. It's not as good as the second one, but there's not a huge drop-off in quality like I expected there to be. There's cheesy stuff in it to be sure, but nothing like the line in X-Men 1 where Storm asks Toad if he knows what happens when a toad is struck by lightning. That may be the cheesiest line in anything ever. In fact, I think I may have liked X-Men 3 better than the first movie. They killed off a lot of major characters, but if you look at it as the final chapter of the X-Men franchise, I think it works and has a fitting ending. I honestly can't see why so many people hated it, it's like Spider-Man 3 in that respect where I recognize it's not as good as the second one, but it's not a terrible movie. They're all enjoyable to me.

So now I'm looking forward to Wolverine again despite the fan reaction.

  2. Oh Scott, what have they done to you?

    - Juggernaut. He was horrible.

    - Omega Red. EXTREMELY Horrible.

    - Angel. Was there even a point to him being in the movie?

    - Beast. Also completely pointless. Why'd they bother adding him if he was going to do nothing?

    - Colossus. Criminally under-used, and he was even on the team this time.

    - Iceman finally "icing up". Extremely disappointing.

    - Jean Grey is resurrected just to die again in the same movie?

    - Cyclops dies for...what reason exactly?

    - Magneto intercepts the transport carrying Multiple Man and Juggernaut. With no convincing whatsoever the two characters join right up with Magneto. I haven't seen the scene in a while but I recall it being laughably bad.

    - Worst of all: The entire plot revolves around the concept that the military has a "cure" for being a mutant. This is what drives the plot. "Don't let anyone shoot you with a syringe or you'll lose your powers." Cut to the scene at the end (or was it after the credits): Magneto, having been injected with the cure and lost his powers, begins to move something with his powers, completely negating the entire plot of the film. All of the events become inconsequential because apparently the cure isn't permanent.

Overall there were too many characters thrown in for no good reason who only served to take away from the plot which, as I said, turns out to be of no real consequence. The movie was either too short or tried to cram too much into it's running time. Terrible.

On the other hand, I agree with you on the Spiderman trilogy. They're all great and while the second is my favorite, they're all 5 out of 5 stars to me.

  3. See, I agree with the things you said but they didn't bother me enough to make me dislike the movie. I'm not saying the movie was great or anything, but I genuinely enjoyed it.

Also, Cristina went to see Wolverine yesterday without me. It was because I was complaining too much about Deadpool and she didn't want me to ruin her enjoyment of the movie.

  4. Oh, and... Omega Red? When was he in the movie? I don't remember that.

  5. I can enjoy a bad movie as well sometimes (Fast & Furious, DEBS, Chill Factor, etc.), but when it's a bad movie about something that I like (like the X-Men), I can't stand for it.

Omega Red was the crappy skinhead Morlock who shot little bone chunks out of his forearms.

  6. "Omega Red was the crappy skinhead Morlock who shot little bone chunks out of his forearms."

Oh okay. How did you know he was Omega Red? Did they have the same real name or something? I know almost nothing about Omega Red from the comics but I don't remember him shooting bones out of his arm.

  7. After I saw the movie I went on IMDb to find out who all of the mutants were supposed to be and that character was listed as Omega Red. After looking at the cast list again it would appear that at some point he was changed to "Spike", however there are a few other characters with the word Omega in their names, and according to IMDb, in the movie Callisto's gang are called "The Omegas" instead of Morlocks for some reason.
