ReplyDeleteHere is the thing Karl, You come to our comments section and list all these reasons why the show sucks and how you hate how we review what we review. You take a bunch of little jabs and then say 'I mean no offense.' Thats just very insulting. You can't say 'no offense' and then go off and be offensive. 'No offense' doesn't clear you into saying whatever you want without insulting folks.
ReplyDeleteRian and I are just 2 guys who shoot the shit and give our opinions on the movies we watch. Very much like what we did at the Kubert School. We are not professional movie critics. We don't claim to have so much more knowledge than everyone else. We watch them movies and talk about what we liked and what we didn't like.
You say our hour long podcast is a long hour and then you come here ramble on for paragraphs and paragraphs defending Where the Wild Things Are and it sounds like you don't even like it all that much. Whats the point of defending it? I kept say that I felt like I didn't get it. Like it was full of things I was supposed to get but I didn't. I was BORED. I really wanted to like it but I was bored. You proceed to echo the comments I was sharing and tell me I don't get it and list off all the stuff that is wrong with my review. In your long ass defense you clearly state that I didn't get it. Great. Thanks for that.
You have all these long ass diatribes on whats wrong with the show. We've had you on the show and where do all these opinions go? Of course there is stuff we leave out. The show is only an hour now. And you know what? It flows and runs pretty fast to me.
In my opinion I think you should never have listened. You absolutely knew that you weren't going to like the show. I know it. I'm not surprised at all that you listened to it and are back bitching about it.
So you can can take your opinions and diatribes and your long ass full of wind opinions and you can suck it. We put ourselves out there. We talk about what we want. We have enough listeners that enjoy what we do. And let me tell you something, they don't always agree with us but they do like to hear our opinions. When they don't agree they sometimes tell us but they aren't dicks about. You come off as such an a-hole when you lecture us on what we should and shouldn't know or how we form our opinions.
You love Benicio Del Toro. Great! I don't! I think we was good in the few things I've seen him in. So sue me! We didn't even bag on him. We talked about the movies that we'd seen and listed off the rest of the stuff he's been in. How can I judge him in Traffic or anything else if I haven't even seen it.
So there you go Karl. Stop listening and you can sleep a little better. No offense.
Jesse, you're very right that I probably shouldn't have listened to the show.
ReplyDeleteWe know each other, so I guess you can insert a certain amount of of personal-ness to my post, but I honestly just wrote out what i was hoping was a series of comments about the show that weren't personal attacks on you or Rian, but moreso a critique of the structure of the show.
I know, and am definitely reminded now, why my comments are not wanted on this page. I was not saying "no offense" so I could then offend you and think my bases were covered. That's juvenile. I seriously do not mean any offense. SERIOUSLY. I have better things to do than attempt to blatantly, maliciously upset you or Rian. Why would I do that? I was compelled to type out my letter because of how I nod my head when I hear a lot of the opinions on the show, but get frustrated when I hear the "Why's."When it comes to movies, I hold Rian to a pretty high standard, because he consistently works through entire filmographies of directors, so I assume he does a fair bit of thinking and research when it comes to the films he watches. I acknowledge that i may assume too much. I do not mean to offend with my assumptions though.
I made a bad decision to let you guys know what it was I figured out, as my presence basically always triggers immediate figurative gnashing of teeth, but it has already been done, and like in my initial long, boring letter, I apologize. I seriously did not mean to make anyone angry.
Looking back on my initial posting, i could have started with a better opening paragraph. That was my bad.
OH! And as far as Benicio is concerned, I'm not trying to bash you guys over the head with the attitude of "You guys need to know this and are stupid not too!" I hope that's not how it was perceived. I meant it more as a "You guys were talking about roles he's good in, so let me point some out that I thought were fantastic. FANTASTIC. He's a really good actor!"
Regardless, I understand your anger. You guys do put yourselves out there with your shows, and my comments were the first since your month long break. Not the best thing to read. I do support your show, in that, I hope it continues to exist for those who like it, and it is definitely a neat time capsule for the two of you and whatever guests you have on the show to look back on. I think it's really cool.
Chris McQuarrie's episode of The Creative Screenwriting Podcast is easily the best one that I've heard. It's the one episode that I keep on my iPod so that I can go back and re-listen to it.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to get into a flame war, so I'll just say this: Karl, we know you don't like the show. You don't need to keep telling us that you don't like it.
The last thing I want is a flame war, Rian. And you're right that i don't like parts of the show and I don't need to comment on it.
ReplyDeleteUnderstand that I really wish I could like the show. That's why when I saw it was an hour show, that was something I liked seeing and gave it another shot. I do enjoy parts. I really, truly do. But overall totally agree it's best that I leave you guys alone.
Oh well!
No offense, rian but I dont think you understand the finer points of monopoly. As someone who often brags about having a game night I assumed that Rian would put some level of thought into what games his chooses to engage in,sadly I believe I was mistaken. no offense.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes monopoly so great is that and why sir I feel you are missing out as as follows.
Monopoly is not only the greatest game ever made but also in these trying times many comparisons can be drawn to todays modern economy. players can choose from many interesting tokens; a car, a boot or the ever popular thimble. monopoly also allows the player to change the game as they see fit a popular "house rule" allows players to collect money if they land on free parking where as more traditional players know that free parking is simply a spot of free rest, unable to be purchased by rival players. perhaps you are bliss fully unaware of these points or as I fear dropped on your head as a child and thus your brain is functioning at a lower speed then the rest of us...again no offense. if you roll doubles three times you must go to jail, where you must either wait three turns or pay the $50 fine, if you pass go do not collect 200....
most players choose to go after the big money properties such as the Yellows or boardwalk and park place, I however find that as a risky bid, although they contain a higher property value, most players will be unwilling to trade them once purchased thus blocking your monopoly also Building cost for homes and hotels are much more expensive...which cuts down on the time needed for you to recoup the funds with expensive hotels and building times...for the yellows its 12 expensive homes before you can even draft up plans for hotels...a lot of time wasted...but you didn't think of that did you? you damn fools...
a far better strategy is to focus on the lower income side of the board, become a slum lord.... the purples might only net you a few hundred dollars a hotel but they cost of building them are very low and you can add that money and build a moderate hotel on st. James place and bleed your enemies dry. also stay away from the railroads some idiot always wants to buy all four...its a fouls gambit to be sure. Although they may pay off early in the game, the lack of building makes them a wasted effort, if you must buy them, Id say trade them early on for some Cheap property. same goes for the water co. and electric co. they may seem like a good idea but let me tell you its a waste. rarely do people land on it and the rolling of the dice for payment will leave you in the poor house before you know it.
no offense.

Hi guys,
ReplyDeleteSo I deleted my comments. It was a poor call to criticize former classmates/friends for whatever passion project they choose to do for fun and for free. Just do what you do.
I'm embarrassed by them, and Joel's got plenty to work with now, and they're a soar reminder.
And as I've always said, I'm game if you ever want me on as a guest again. I never said I wasn't. lol
