i've been meaning to see 13 Assassins, the director Takashi Miike is always worth a watch because sometimes he'll do really mundane boring generic stuff but then every so often he'll do something crazy as hell.
ReplyDeletei laughed at your Dark Knight poster/Inception/buildings crumbling/Nolan conversation. haha.
i think the main movie i'm looking forward to next year is Prometheus (also featuring Noomi Rapace!). i don't really care about all the superhero movies coming out other than Ghost Rider 2, i'll play all those by ear or wait for video. kind of burned out on big theatrical-release stuff, i'm mostly waiting for the next Universal Soldier and Undisputed 4. XD. i also always keep an eye on what horror stuff comes out and right now i have no idea what's coming up.
holy crap, your Michaels story. i could never work there. i love Rian's comic store guy story, too, oh man. i gotta go back and listen to all the older episodes i haven't heard to find more comic store stories!!
ME AGAIN. 8)
ReplyDeletenow HERE are some good movie posters for Cap: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2011/07/captain-america-propoganda-posters/
Guess I'm never going to see Smokey and the Bandit.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what that SVK was all about, but the ads for it were so vague to me that I thought it was a new company he was starting. Thanks for the info...
Thanks for the show to draw to!
Ross - I'm surprised Rian didn't bring up Prometheus. I'm sure we will talk about it soon and it's vague Alien connection. (Or no connection.)
ReplyDeleteI love the Dark Knight and can't wait for more.
I'm so glad I don't work retail anymore. I'm always telling Rian to quit Michael's since it sucks so much there but he is a glutton for punishment.
And those Cap posters are way better than any of the crappy ones we've seen.
Nice - Glad you enjoy the show!
Ross - It's been a while since I told a comic store customer story, but there are definitely a few good ones if you feel like going back through some of the older episodes. I believe there are a fair number of episodes which aren't currently available, though. I think everything from episode 100 to now is available, but there's a chunk of episodes between 1 and 99 that are MIA. Feel free to bug Jesse to re-upload them, though.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, I'm not really looking forward to Prometheus. I'm too damned precious with the Alien franchise to allow myself to get my hopes up for this movie if it does indeed include the xenomorphs as I've heard. Then, there's the fact that the only Ridley Scott movies I like are Alien and Black Hawk Down, and I find the majority of his movies boring. If you want to hear my full rant about Prometheus, you'll have to cross your fingers for Jesse to bring it up on the show.
Nico - SVK is a really nice looking book with a neat premise, but I'm not sure the story is worth it for people who aren't Warren Ellis completists like myself.
Jesse - You don't seem to take into account when you repeatedly tell me to quit Michaels that I'd be losing about 1/3 of my already meager income.
When I switched servers I had to re-upload everything. Right now episodes 82- present are all available to download. The first 10 episodes (which I don' recommend you listen to) are available as well as 25, 50, and 75. I think if you were going to go back to listen to past episodes don't go past 99. There are a few good things in the first 98 episodes but you really have to find them. And a lot of those episodes are 2-3 hours long. So be my guest but good luck! I'll slowly be adding older shows back to the server as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd Rian you could make the money that Michaels is paying you almost anywhere. But I guess with the job market the way it is you should never look a gift horse in the mouth. And as soon as Man-Gull blows up you can buy Michaels and burn it to the ground.
The best old episodes to listen to are the Side Project episodes with Rian's dad. Now that is some good stuff!

Come to think of it, we should come up with some kind of Top 10 list of pre-100 episodes for people who want to do a little catching up. Anyone have any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteRian: i guess we've talked about Prometheus enough on twitter but i'll blather a bit here anyway, bwahaha. i actually don't like many Ridley Scott movies either other than Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, and Matchstick Men (which is just okay but i love Cage as you probably know). but i'm interested in him doing sci-fi/horror again, for me it's like if Cronenberg returned to horror, that in itself is interesting.
ReplyDeletei'm not precious about much of anything but as far as Alien goes i don't think the franchise can go any lower, for me it's been thoroughly ruined and watered down and became something i didn't like and i don't think any further installments can please me because of the history/mythology they'd be built off of.
but if Prometheus can go back to the beginning with a clean-ish slate, or even better forge its own continuity, then that gets me excited. and if it's terrible then whatever, but if it's good then awesome. i really compartmentalize the Alien movies in my head, though, so i don't mind anymore what they do with the franchise/character because the movies i like will remain the same. i know we have differing opinions on that but that's just me. :)
