Great episode guys. I think Zack and Miri is smith's worst flick. In fact he's had more duds than good stuff. Sounds like Rian was talking about alternate timelines like in Community! Very funny. And great featured review. I liked Elysium alot, but you guys brought up some great points, and I agree with the character development not being there. I don't really like Matt Damon as an actor and just dealt with him. However, there was alot of things I loved that made me look past some of the gripes i had. I was caught up in the excitement nad dropped 5 stars on it, but looking back, I would give it a 4 star in restrospect, And it is still my favorite movie of the year so far, until World's End comes out!
ReplyDeleteThe best quote of the week was Rian "and i did get to see a girl eat some fetus'" Jesse "and that's always a plus"
Zack And Miri isn't great, but it's harmless. Maybe that's what's wrong with it, though. I'd say that Jersey Girl, Clerks II, and Cop Out are harmless as well, and since Smith kind of came onto the scene as this new voice with his own style, perhaps that's the major problem with his later films. I just think he ran out of things to say after Dogma and he's just been treading water ever since. Even Red State feels more like he was trying so hard to be relevant again instead of just legitimately being relevant.
DeleteYou'd give Elysium 4 out of 5 stars and it's still your favorite movie of the year? Are you a harsher critic than I thought, or have you just not been too impressed by much this year?
If I thought we could sustain it with good quotes, I'd say we need a weekly "Best Quote Of The Week".
I would say I have been generally underwhelmed. Hoping things would be better. I think the last movie to really blow me away was avengers and the grey. I have been having such high hopes for everything.
